Senior Tooling Engineer
Description

This position is the engineering technical contact for customers requiring problem solving efforts regarding tooling. This person works with suppliers and customers when new tools and/or repairs are required.

Responsibilities
  • Designs new fixtures and has them built and implemented into production.
  • Writes tooling orders to outside toolmakers for building.
  • Toolroom responsibility. Works with staff to ensure proper maintenance and readiness of tools to meet production needs.
  • Keep customers and Plaspros staff updated on status of tooling builds & repairs.
  • Owner of Pad Printing equipment needs and tooling for new and existing projects.
  • Owner of Ultrasonic Welding equipment needs and tooling for new and existing projects.
  • Owner of CMM; develop CMM programs & fixtures and train QC employees on usage of.
  • Support QC on existing and new test fixture needs.
  • Assists in performing First Article Inspection layouts on piece parts to customers.
  • Advises supervisor on status of projects (timeline & budget).
  • Stops production in supervisor’s absence when a mandatory Customer Engineering Change is received.
  • Provides volume calculations to determine the weight of piece part when creating new quotes.
  • Assists supervisor on updated and maintaining plant layout drawings.
  • Ensures company policies are followed and enforces safety regulations.
  • Fully utilizes the ISO 9000; reviews and develops departmental procedures to support as needed.
  • Maintains good working relationship with others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of college or technical degree/certificate.
  • Minimum 7 years of tooling experience.
  • Solid modeling CAD proficiency – preferably SolidWorks.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid math skills and blueprint reading capabilities.
  • Self-motivated.

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing and walking. May include some climbing and repetitive motions. Must be able to Lift up to 60 lbs.

Work Environment: Manufacturing environment: some plastic dust and fumes, possibly involve elevated noise and some chemicals.
